New heating system at Emerald Gardens offers excellent efficiency

The heating and hot water provided to apartments at Emerald Gardens will be part of an energy-efficient district heating system consisting of a central boiler plant installed in the building’s basement, which provides heated water through a distribution pipework to a ‘Heat Interface Unit’ in the properties. This unit provides and controls the hot water and heating.

As well as significantly reducing CO2 emissions, this system also comes with low maintenance costs and disturbance levels, as any routine work is carried out in the plant room rather than in individual apartments.

To achieve the most efficient heating, the temperature of the water in the district system is kept low, meaning the radiators in the apartments will not be hot to the touch as you would normally expect, but warm, while to provide sufficient heat the radiator sizes are larger than usual. The heating is run by a room controller, giving timed on, off and temperature settings, plus information on district heating temperatures and heat usage. The hot water is automatic and will operate as soon as a hot tap is turned on.

If you’d like to discover more, pop in and visit our professionally decorated show apartments at Emerald Gardens, which are now fitted with the modern radiators that will be in the new homes. This is a perfect chance to see for yourself what they look like within the context of these superb apartments, while our friendly Sales Executives will be on hand to answer any queries you may have.

We have also reviewed and upgraded the specification of our hallway cupboards. Having previously provided floor tiling to laundry cupboards, we have now extended this to be included in all hallway cupboards as well, to provide a hard‑wearing surface ready for the storage of any item.

Schoolchildren learn all about staying safe

Youngsters from Nelson Primary School in Twickenham have learned some valuable lessons about staying safe thanks to a special visit from our team.

Members of staff from our West London business unit, which is currently building new homes at our prestigious Emerald Gardens development in nearby Kew, have been working with the school to promote the importance of health and safety – as well as launching an exciting art project!

Year 4 schoolchildren enjoyed a special assembly on Monday 5th June which featured talks by our Production Manager Andrew Watson and Emerald Gardens Assistant Site Manager Tara Smith.

The pupils found out about the various dangers associated with building sites, and participated in a stimulating Q&A session about the construction industry in general. The children were also invited to design some safety hoarding for the development – given supplies including paint, hazard posters and ply, they were allowed to let their imaginations run wild!

Some of the children, along with their parents, were then invited to Emerald Gardens on Thursday 15th June to take pictures of their work and visit the site.

“We gave them all personal protective equipment to wear and sat them down in our meeting room to talk about how to stay safe on and around building sites,” says Tara.

“We then took them to see the wonderful hoarding they’d designed, which now takes pride of place at Emerald Gardens. The children did a great job with their drawings and really exhibited their creativity – the final product looks fantastic and is a great attribute to the external view of our site as our building works take shape.

“They also got to see a forklift truck in action, which they all loved, and we rounded things off by giving them ice cream and juice.

“The talk and visit were arranged as part of Taylor Wimpey’s ‘Considerate Constructors’ initiative and it was a delight to take part in. We take our health and safety responsibilities seriously, both on-site and off it, and it was great to see such a positive response from the pupils.”

There is a beautiful range of stylish one and two-bedroom apartments currently available to reserve at Emerald Gardens.

Kew Midsummer Fete - Taylor Wimpey Emerald Gardens

JUNE 2017

Kew Midsummer Fete receives continued support

We’ve handed over a welcome donation to the organisers of the annual Kew Midsummer Fete for the fourth year running.

Our West London team, which is currently building high-quality new homes at Emerald Gardens, donated £2,000 in sponsorship to the popular local event, which took place this year on Saturday 17th June.

A fun family event run solely by volunteers, the Kew Midsummer Fete features an exciting programme of attractions, including more than 100 trade stalls, a fantastic selection of food and drink, performances from acts representing local schools, performing arts clubs and bands, a vintage fairground, a tug of war competition, a charity raffle and the Friendly Dog Show, the highlight of the show for many.

“Kew Midsummer Fete has raised nearly £100,000 for local charities since its inception in 2010,” explains Michael Glazebrook, Chairman of the Kew Midsummer Fete Committee.

“In addition to the support of the local Kew community, we are very grateful for the contributions made by our sponsors, without whom this event would not be the huge success it has become. We are delighted that Taylor Wimpey is our Platinum sponsor for a fourth consecutive year.”

Emma Jones, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West London, says: “We take great pride in supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we are delighted to be sponsoring the Kew Midsummer Fete for the fourth consecutive year.

“The fete is a fantastic local event that attracts people from far and wide, and we’re sure that this year’s will be bigger and better than ever before!”

Maureen - Emerald Gardens - Web Version (2)

June 2017

Emerald Gardens is the ideal home for Maureen!

When Maureen Parker had the opportunity to view Emerald Gardens for the first time, she knew immediately that she would feel right at home in this fantastic location in Kew.

The retired personal assistant longed to move from her three-bedroom house in Wokingham, Berkshire, to an apartment in London to be closer to her daughter Vanessa, and grandchildren James and Isabella.

Her search for the perfect apartment in the capital seemed never-ending – until she viewed Emerald Gardens and became one of the first purchasers of the deluxe new apartments here.

Maureen says: “I had moved from London to Wokingham for my job, but I started to miss everything I loved about London like going to the theatre, being able to get the bus and tube to places quickly, and being near my family.

“If it wasn’t for my son-in-law spotting these new apartments in the London Evening Standard, I wouldn’t have found my new home – I’d started to give up searching for a place that suited my lifestyle but he suggested looking at Emerald Gardens and I fell in love with the apartment – and Kew – straight away!”

The development’s picturesque yet convenient location has proved to be ideal for Maureen, who is excited to enjoy the tranquillity of life within walking distance of Kew Gardens while taking advantage of the fantastic local transport links into central London.

She explains: “I absolutely adore Kew Gardens and recently had a chance to walk around Kew Village. It’s very green and leafy but is still not too far from where I grew up in Notting Hill – I love that I can enjoy the nature of the village and then hop on the tube to see my friends in the city!

“My daughter and grandchildren are really excited about me moving to Emerald Gardens – it means we can all spend more time together and they cannot wait to visit. My grandson plays hockey not too far from here as well so I’ll be able to go to see him regularly, as well as see my granddaughter swim at her swimming club.

“Being close to where I grew up and to where my family live at the moment makes me feel as if moving to Emerald Gardens is 100% really meant to be.”

As Maureen eagerly awaits moving to Emerald Gardens – by December 2017/January 2018 – she has been enjoying her visits to the Marketing Suite to speak to our team, who have been providing her with plenty of help and advice throughout the purchasing process.

Maureen adds: “Each time I visit the Marketing Suite Catrin and Jill from Taylor Wimpey are so welcoming and friendly, and have been so supportive throughout the buying process.

“They have local knowledge and are as passionate and enthusiastic about Emerald Gardens as I am, which is fantastic!”

The high-specification fixtures, luxurious design, generous balcony and spacious layouts of the new homes impressed Maureen immediately when she viewed the show apartment.

She continues: “Walking into the apartment, the high-quality craftsmanship in everything from the woodwork on the doors to the worktops and the fittings really stood out right away, as well as the spacious balcony.

“After Catrin from Taylor Wimpey showed me around, I turned to her and said ‘wow’ – because it all looked so lovely and luxurious!”

Work is progressing beautifully at luxury apartment development Emerald Gardens, with the latest impressive room to be completed one that all residents will use – a stylish concierge area.

Think of it as the lobby of a five-star hotel, where a helpful, full-time member of staff will field enquiries, answer questions and even store the odd parcel until residents are ready to pick it up themselves.

It will look like a smart hotel lobby too, thanks to a talented team from top design company Navigation Suites, led by director Ben Tucker.

“The brief was to make it look a million dollars – and that’s what we’ve done,” said Ben.

“We designed the high-end, bespoke marketing suite, which Emerald Gardens buyers will be familiar with, and the permanent concierge is next door and so flows on from it and complements it.

“So think dark walnut panelled walls, a grey slate tiled floor and a unique and quite expensive lighting feature.

“Lockable boxes for all the residents are here too, and they’re finished in a copper bronze. The whole look is quite minimalist. We’re trying to get that five-star hotel look into the concierge area.

“The thinking is very much that Emerald Gardens is in Kew, which is an affluent area, and every aspect of the build has to reflect that.”

In other words, inside Emerald Gardens, every apartment is finished to an exceptionally high specification – because the world immediately outside Emerald Gardens tends to be the same!

Residents will be close to an impressive array of boutique shops, exclusive bars and unique restaurants.

The tranquil, luxury apartments, are within easy walking distance of both the River Thames and the world famous 326-acre Kew Gardens, home of the largest and most diverse collection of plants in the world.

And of course Kew underground and Kew Bridge overground stations offer quick and convenient access to Central London and Gatwick Airport.
